Back Stretching Exercises

Back stretches are probably the most commonly used tool in back pain relief. You may have seen many different types of back stretches over your travels, yet found most to be less effective than you like.



Even with acute pain or after surgery stretching helps to rebuild strength. However special care is needed while performing any lower back stretches. Stretching should be done gently, without bouncing. Stretch relatively slowly, to the point of discomfort and just a little bit beyond. If pain occurs while stretching release a little, until pain goes away.



Back pain can worsen with extended bed-rest as the muscles seize, causing painful spasms. Injury experts encourage gentle muscle stretching not only for mobility but to improve blood flow to the injured area for healing. Always seek your doctor's approval before embarking on any exercise program if you have a back injury.



Back stretching exercise can help relieve and reduce that pain. Back exercises can be effective even without the use of medication or other locally applied therapies. However, there are some principles that you would have to bear in mind before stretching your back; in order to ascertain that you do not cause your back increased pain in the process.



Due to the increased popularity of these back stretching machines, many manufacturers of fitness equipment have jumped on the bandwagon to promote exercise equipment that would suit different needs. There are many varieties of such machines available that cater to enthusiasts of different levels.

The vertebrae consists of 30 bones stacked one on top of the other like a column, this is collectively known as the spinal column. The main role of the spinal column is to protect and house the spinal cord. It also supports the weight of the head and keeps it in a level position while we are walking or standing.

If performed appropriately, you will notice results more or less immediately, so just make certain that you perform them appropriately and don't rush by the process mechanically.



Orthopedic experts say that doing so will only impede the healing process and recommend doing simple lower back pain stretches instead. These exercises help lessen the pain, and strengthen and re-align the spine. 



Through stretching both the muscles and joints, the body will become warmed up and prepared for rigorous activity. By conditioning the body in such a manner, the likelihood of a muscle tear or strain through sporting activity, leading to problems with back pain, will be much reduced.
